The Glory of a Birth Day

Today I will become a great aunt for the first time (that makes me sound so old). My niece is on the way to the hospital, with a stubborn little girl inside who refuses to come out. :) I am so excited for her, and I cannot wait to meet the new addition to our ever-expanding family circle (sphere? oval? egg shape? Hindenburg?).

The births of both of our children were the most amazing days of my life. Exhausting too, but it is completely overcome with the wonderment of this new life in your arms. It is hard to put in to words the excitement of meeting this brand new person who is now part of your family. I almost think Zoey's was even more special, because it included Evan. His face when he ran in to our room with a pink stuffed bunny for the new baby was just so special. He was and is always so happy to have her (save a few and far between jealous moments. There was one incident where he yelled, DON'T LIFT YOUR SHIRT UP MOMMY! as I was getting ready to feed Zoey).

(you can't see his face here, but this is their first meeting)

Later in the day, this is what it was like. Always making faces, that boy is.

Just the prospect of the birth day makes me want to have another one. The first 24 hours are so great, especially because they are sleeping non-stop. It's only after you get home that  you remember how it might become just a little more difficult.

A friend of mine who I work with (who also took Zoey's beautiful baby photographs here, just recently did her first birthing photography session. The joy on the parent's faces is something that just can't be recreated. It makes me tear us seeing it, and I don't even know these people. Take a look here:

So to my niece, today will be the most wonderful day. And you will never forget it. (Of course, it may be tomorrow,  haha, in that case you will most definitely not forget it. Took me 28 hours to have Evan.)

We are all believing
for a healthy, happy,
quick, virtually painless,
wonderful birth for you.

Okay, so I'm not a poet.

Also, just wanted to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to my favorite red-headed lady on her recent wedding. I am so happy for you and we wish you the best!!!! And please visit me when you get back, I miss you. (I also apparently need  your help in the blogging department cause my picture placement above is pretty horrendous. Please teach me how to border and merge and stuff, k?)
